Starting Your Checklist

Let’s start with what you are going to need and what you want to move:

Itemization: First on the list, what items in the house are going, what is staying, and what is getting sold or donated. Now is the time to do a quick inventory of your home and make those decisions. There are many options for donating, selling or giving away unwanted items. The less you have to move and the more organized you are, the easier your moving day will be.

Essentials: A box of must-have items. Includes items such as: hammers, screwdrivers, first aid kit, paper plates, utensils, change of clothes, snacks, drinks, etc.

Supplies

Here are some common supplies that you may need. Now with helpful tips!!!

Boxes – Everything you own that can go in a box, should. Use padding (bubble wrap, blankets, newspaper) when needed: dishes, glass items, trinkets, etc. Although, please refrain from overloading the boxes. This prevents boxes from becoming extremely heavy and it reduces the chance that they are dropped or break during transit. If you do need to pack heavy items, use a smaller box with a higher weight rating.

Bubble Wrap – Bubble wrap keeps your items protected. Its many uses include: wrapping delicate items, protecting mirrors, art and paintings, dishes, etc.

Specialty Boxes – These range from TV’s to mirrors to wardrobe boxes. Pretty much any box you threw away, there is a compatible specialty box now.

Packing Tape / Shrink-wrap – Tape a box closed, shrink-wrap a couch. Especially useful for bed frames, cabinet drawers, electronics’ wires, etc.

Sharpies – Having a few sharpies around will help you to label all your boxes. Labeling categories include: Room, Person, Floor, Fragile, Contents, etc.

Dolly / Hand-truck – Moving made easy.
